Our Story
This marriage is brought to you by Hinge—designed to be deleted. I (Kyle) showed up late and sweaty to our first date. I’d been riding my bike a lot the summer Evan and I met and I decided to bike to the wine bar. On the way, I hit a pothole or a piece of glass and ended up with a flat tire about a mile from the bar. I messaged Evan right away that I’d be a little late. I think it was a good ice breaker. We spent the rest of the evening bonding over our love for the outdoors, how similarly we grew up, and our travels. From the first glass of wine, it felt so easy to be around one another. We ordered glass after glass and stayed at the wine bar for at least four hours. It felt like no one was there but us. When the night ended, I think we both went home feeling giddy—I know I did.
Our second and third dates were about a month later. After our third date to Thai food and a concert, we hung out the whole weekend and never looked back. Even when Evan saw five bikes in my 500 square foot apartment, she didn’t run!
Since that weekend nearly four years ago, we have had countless adventures together. Our trips have taken us around the world, from Banff and Jasper National Parks in Alberta to Australia and the South Island of New Zealand, and all over the Eastern Sierras in between. These adventures have shown us how to partner with one another and make the most of any situation.
On our first bikepacking trip together, and Evan’s first bikepacking trip ever, we spent 8 hours hiking our bikes in the middle of nowhere in Southern Oregon on the rockiest 4x4 road you could imagine. We thought this would be our easy day, but it was the only time I’ve considered pressing the rescue button on the Garmin InReach. We rolled into camp just as the sun was setting. I was sure Evan would never want to go bikepacking again, but she is determined, and we’ve gone on so many bikepacking trips since then. Our type 2 adventures have certainly strengthened our relationship, to say the least.
In September 2024, we welcomed a new addition to our little family—our dog, Griffith. Oh man. This cattle kid has been more of a challenge than we could have expected, but he has taught us so much about working in a partnership, patience, and how to support one another. He’s also been such a joy to bring into our lives. He loves bikepacking as much as we do, and he’s a very sweet boy to those he trusts.
Moving into this new chapter, we’re excited to continue building a life of adventure together. Each of you has played such a special role in our lives at different times and helped us become who we are. We want each of you to be there because you’re part of our story. You’ll be the people we lean on when we go through inevitable challenges and with whom we will celebrate our happiest moments. It will be so special to have you there to celebrate with us.
